Emma's Quilt

My first attempt
As my daughter grew up some of the scraps from clothes I made for her were cut into squares and saved.  Early in 2001 I finally plucked up courage and sewed them together.  With 2 small boys around to "help" a couple of the squares were mislaid which led to a quick rearrangement of the pattern!  Any way following the piecing I went to Croft Mill, who make and sell 108" wide sheeting, and bought the material for the borders, backing and binding.  When I made up the quilt top I found I needed a bigger piece of wadding (batting) than I had bought!  Doing a net search found The Cotton Patch who supplied me with a polyester hi-loft wadding of suitable size.  I then layered it, pinned it (NB must buy a large quantity of safety pins), tied it with variegated embriodery floss, and finally bound it and had it ready in good time for my daughter's birthday.  I even made a couple of pillow cases  from the backing fabric to match.

Tying or tufting - quick and easy!
Lots of little tufts of embroidery floss
